Description from the seller
Oil painting on a 0.3 cm panel
This work is part of my two-artist auction, in which I bring together several paintings around calm, vulnerability, and the longing to disappear from the world for a moment.
During the auction I’ll share extra images from my studio on Instagram: details, process moments, paint choices and small thoughts about the works. For those who enjoy not only seeing the final result but also the search behind it, there is more to follow via @francienkrieg.
I enjoy painting portraits of young men and adolescents because there is something special in that life stage: a vulnerability that has not yet been hardened by the world. Their faces and bodies carry an indefinable quality – they are not fully formed yet, but full of promise and possibilities. What interests me is precisely that in-between moment: no longer a child, not yet a man. In that transition lies a beauty I want to capture, the openness of what can still become and the fragile awareness that this phase lasts only a short time.
All series—from self-portraits and aging bodies to young male boxers, women at sunset, and intimate scenes with cats—are available on my website, where you can also read more about my background and motivations: www.francienkrieg.com
I work exclusively with high-quality materials: professionally prepared linen or smooth panels, and top-quality oil paints, rich in pigment. Each work is made with care and dedication – meant to endure for a long time, not only physically but also in meaning.
