Rare Blue and White Kraak Porcelain Saucer Dish with Fish Decoration
China, Wanli to Tianqi period (circa 1610–1625)

A finely potted and unusual blue and white Kraak porcelain saucer dish, moulded with a distinctive double chrysanthemum-petal rim left intentionally undecorated, a characteristic feature of this refined type of late Ming export ware.

The centre is decorated with a fish swimming amongst aquatic plants, a motif inspired by earlier Yuan and early Ming dynasty fish dishes, here reinterpreted in the Kraak porcelain tradition. Fish motifs in Chinese art symbolise abundance, prosperity, and harmony, while the freely painted water foliage creates a lively and elegant composition.

The reverse bears an apocryphal Chenghua mark in underglaze blue. The porcelain body is of notably fine quality, and fish-decorated Kraak dishes of this type are comparatively rare.

According to Maura Rinaldi, the moulded border corresponds to Border Type 1B, dating the piece to approximately 1610–1625.
