Madagascar jasper is a variety of jasper widely known for its beauty and its color variations. It is believed that Madagascar jasper formed about 90 million years ago, during the Cretaceous period, through the process of regional metamorphism. Madagascar is located in a geologically active area, where several tectonic plates meet and collide. This tectonic movement has led to the formation of numerous faults and fracture zones in the rocks beneath. Volcanic activity in the region has also contributed to the formation of magma deposits and intrusive rocks, which were subsequently subjected to high pressures and temperatures during the regional metamorphism process. During this process, the pre-existing rocks were transformed into jasper through recrystallization and rearrangement of minerals.
