Antique silver toothpick holder featuring a figural Cupid holding a pinecone, in .833 silver, from Portugal, dating to 1850–1900, with a tripartite base and hand-chased floral decoration; height 17 cm, base diameter 8 cm, weight 111.68 g, good condition with signs of aging.

Antique Silver Toothpick Holder – Figural Cupid / Putto holding a Pinecone
Portugal assay mark (1887-1937), 833/000, and same date marker's mark.
A magnificent antique silver toothpick holder (paliteiro), a highly decorative and sculptural piece typical of the finest silverware traditions.
The piece rests on a heavy tripartite base, richly adorned with hand-chased embossed floral motifs and a beaded rim. Standing atop the base is a finely detailed, three-dimensional figure of a young Cupid (Putto), holding aloft in his left hand a perforated oval receptacle (shaped like a pinecone or flower bud with leaves at the base), specifically designed to hold toothpicks.
Condition: Excellent vintage condition with a beautiful natural patina and superb luster. The sculptural details remain crisp and well-defined. No structural dents or visible repairs.
Period/Origin: Late 19th Century / Early 20th Century.
