Description from the seller
Brand: Universal Genève
Reference: 20363/3
Year of production: 1956–1959
Model: Polerouter 20363/3
Case material: gold-plated steel
Movement: automatic microrotor Universal Genève cal. 215
Case diameter without crown: 35 mm
Crown: original (spindle broken, to be replaced)
Crystal: plexiglass
Functions: hours, minutes and seconds
Servicing history: unknown, movement functioning
Introduced in the mid-1950s, the Polerouter holds notable historical significance both as one of Gérald Genta’s early designs and as a platform for Universal Genève’s revolutionary Microtor automatic technology. Reference 20363/3 occupies a special position in this developmental line thanks to its no-date configuration, produced in much more limited quantities than the date variants, and is one of the marquee models of the Universal Genève golden era.
What you should know:
- The Polerouter was created to celebrate SAS polar flights and introduced the revolutionary Microtor, a technical solution that integrates the oscillating mass directly into the movement’s architecture, allowing thinner cases and a sleek, modern design;
- the no-date version like this one was produced in far fewer quantities than the date variants;
- this version is the same one worn by the legendary actor and kung‑fu master, Bruce Lee. His oversized black leather strap watch was sold to collectors at a Hong Kong auction for a “spectacular” sum a few years ago;
- the Polerouter was re-launched by the revived Universal Genève maison as a flagship model for new collections at the Watches and Wonders Swiss watch fair.
Condition:
This specimen, while not perfectly preserved, is in conditions consistent with its age, appearing to have been lightly polished at most, preserving proportions and the original character. The dial has developed a light tropical patina, which adds warmth and depth while remaining legible and balanced. This natural aging of this kind is highly appreciated by collectors and testifies to the piece’s authenticity. The movement runs well even though the microrotor seems to lightly touch the case back. The original crown is present but worn and detached (spindle broken), so it should be replaced. Plexiglass crystal in good condition. Non-original used strap, to be replaced. The watch would benefit from a service.
With its clean no-date dial, genuine and preserved wear, the Ref. 20363/3 represents a rare opportunity to acquire a Polerouter in a configuration that reflects how these watches were actually worn and experienced. It is a fascinating example of mid‑century watchmaking, capable of combining historical significance, mechanical innovation, and an authentically collectible character.
