Refined travel toilet service in a portable case, made in crystal, silver, tortoiseshell and leather, dating to 1933/34 and presented in its original case with a variety of grooming pieces in good used condition.
Description from the seller
Refined portable travel toilet service in a compact case, made of crystal, silver, and tortoise shell, kept in its original case.
The item is accompanied by an antiquarian appraisal dated December 22, 2001, in which it is described as:
“Portable leather travel toilet set in a case, made of crystal, silver, and tortoise shell, a work by a London silversmith, with scissors made by a Sheffield manufacturer.”
According to the appraisal, the hallmarks indicate the city of London and the year of manufacture 1933/1934. The scissors, however, are attributable to a Sheffield manufacturer.
The set comprises several toilet and travel accessories, including crystal containers, brushes, a hand mirror, scissors, and small manicure/personal care tools. The items are housed in the original case, with lined interiors and molded supports.
The set presents an elegant aesthetic typical of the first half of the 20th century, with tortoise shell details and metal finishes, associated with English Art Deco taste.
The case is externally clad in antique beige/gold-toned material, with a front handle, metal closure, and a lined interior. Inside, there are original compartments and mounts for the accessories.
The 2001 appraisal valued it at €1,032.91.
The item appears in good overall condition for its age. Normal signs of wear and use, patina, slight oxidation on metal parts, small marks and wear to the case and interiors, consistent with the period. Some elements show natural preservation and use traces, as visible in the photographs.
The photographs are an integral part of the description and show in detail the conservation state of the lot.
A rare and highly decorative object, ideal for collectors of antique toilet services, English silver, vintage travel items, Art Deco pieces, and early 20th-century collectible accessories.
Important note: The item contains tortoise shell, a material subject to CITES regulations. The lot is dated 1933/1934, thus predating 1947, and is accompanied by antiquarian appraisal. Any shipments outside the European Union may require additional verification or documentation according to current regulations.
Conditions: Good overall condition for the object's age. Normal signs of time, patina, oxidation, and minor wear. The case shows signs of use and aging but retains its original charm. The main accessories are well preserved and fitted in their designated mounts. Please carefully review all photographs, which constitute an integral part of the description.
