Description from the seller

UV checked!

Ewer
Canton porcelain
China, Guangdong Province
Qing Dynasty, late 19th century
36 cm x 20 cm x 20 cm

This generously proportioned ewer, with a pear-shaped elegant body, a narrowed neck and an S-shaped spout, is fitted with a tall arched handle. It belongs to the so-called "famille rose" decorative repertoire, typical of Cantonese workshops of the second half of the 19th century intended for both the domestic market and export.

The decoration, extremely lush, combines a ground adorned with emerald-green foliate motifs, punctuated by pink flowers and butterflies, with polylobed reserves. These host figurative scenes of interior life (young women, scholars and servants in pavilions), alternating with naturalistic medallions depicting birds, flowers and insects. The overall effect is achieved in opaque enamels enriched with gilding, using a technique characteristic of Canton productions. The lip and certain borders are outlined with a fine gold trim.

The base presents a broad unmarked annular foot, white glaze slightly satin, in keeping with utilitarian and decorative pieces of this period.

Condition: wear from use and rubbing of the gilding. Good condition! Observed under UV.

Provenance: Portuguese Collection - Kanaka The Collection

Shipping: Shipped with UPS / CTT with insurance and tracking
