AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Gorgeous reception tablecloth in pure antique country linen, dating from the late 19th / early 20th century. Its dimensions are 1.50 m x 1.90 m (ideal for a table of 6 to 8 place settings). The fabric is a fine linen of high quality, with an authentic and regular texture, featuring a superb finish with a Venitian openwork hem.

A very rare collectible narrative tablecloth:
Contrary to classic antique cloths with purely floral motifs, this one presents a genuine handcrafted iconographic program, typical of the Neo-Renaissance style:
- At the four corners: four embroidered squares depicting profiles of chimera/grotesques facing each other (allegory of the Four Seasons).
- On the field: 14 embroidered squares showing 7 different faces / mascarons (each face appears twice). Each face has unique expressions and attributes (stylized hairstyles, torches, scepters), evoking a mythological cycle or the days of the week.

The inlay work combines white relief embroidery (buttonhole/feston stitch) and a magnificent network of lace in lacet (Renaissance lace type / Venetian Point).

A unique piece of great refinement, ideal for lovers of fine linen, art embroidery, or exceptional table décor.

This tablecloth is truly white; there may be color variations depending on the light in which I took the photos.
