A Neo‑Renaissance oak cabinet from Belgium dating to 1850–1900, in excellent condition with dimensions 95 × 75 × 53 cm, in the Art Nouveau style and with a functional lock and original key.
Description from the seller
Superb Neo-Renaissance style cabinet, dating from the second half of the 19th century (Historism/Napoleon III period).
This piece of cabinetry is made of high-quality solid oak, bearing an original deep, rich, and warm patina.
This piece stands out for the finesse and density of its carved decoration. It opens in front by:
A large belt drawer, adorned with a frieze of elongated rosettes and channels, opening by a movable iron patinated handle.
A solid door decorated with a superb central bas-relief panel representing a ceremonial vase (or antique urn) from which symmetrical scrolls, acanthus leaves, and floral motifs emanate. The key entry is in chased brass.
The front is elegantly framed by two fluted and turned engaged columns, resting on a baluster base. The piece is topped with a rectangular moulded top and supported by sturdy angle consoles sculpted with acanthus leaves. It rests on a wide moulded plinth that overhangs.
The interior is clean and compartmentalized by a removable shelf. The piece is sold with its original wrought-iron key, perfectly functional, adorned with an elegant two-tone passementerie pompon (azure and cream). The construction is traditional (side panels with frame-and-panel, robust lower crosspieces visible on the underside).
Condition:
In excellent overall condition for a 'house' piece. The furniture is sound, stable and authentic. The wood shows no major cracks or signs of pest infestation. The sculptures are sharp, with no significant losses. The drawer and the lock operate perfectly. Very light signs of wear, normal for its age, contributing to its patina. Cleaned and waxed.
Dimensions:
Height: 95 cm
Width: 75 cm
Depth: 53 cm
Delivery notes:
The piece is solid oak and of considerable density.
