Description from the seller
Nikon Lens Series E Zoom 36-72mm f/3.5 AI-S (Satoshi Mogami / Nikon)
Hello from Japan!
We provide high-quality cameras and lenses to the world.
About this Lens:
Released in October 1981, the Nikon Series E Zoom 36-72mm f/3.5 was Nikon's first standard zoom in the Series E budget line, designed for the Nikon EM and other compact bodies of that era. According to Nikon's official "NIKKOR — The Thousand and One Nights" series, the optics were designed by Satoshi Mogami, an optical theorist with a background in astronomy who worked in Nikon's Optical Designing Department, and who is officially positioned by Nikon as the legitimate successor to the legendary Zoom-Nikkor 43-86mm f/3.5. Mr. Mogami later left Nikon to pursue a career in medicine and now runs his own clinic in Tokyo, making this lens a quiet but fascinating piece in the history of Nikon optical design.
Although marketed as a budget lens, the 36-72mm f/3.5 ended up being built to full Nikkor quality standards. Nikon's quality-assurance department refused to lower its standards during development, so multilayer coating was ultimately applied throughout despite original cost-reduction plans. The result is a compact, one-touch push-pull zoom of 8 elements with a constant f/3.5 aperture across the entire focal range, 52mm filter thread, and Nikkor-grade rendering at the price of an entry-level lens.
Mount: Nikon F (AI-S). Fully compatible with all Nikon AI/AI-S-capable manual focus film bodies (FA, FE, FE2, FM, FM2, F3, etc.) and widely adaptable to modern mirrorless cameras (Sony E, Fujifilm X, Micro Four Thirds, Canon RF, Nikon Z via FTZ, etc.) using inexpensive Nikon F-to-mirrorless adapters.
