Brand: Guyatone
Model: PS-007 Phaser
Type: Analog Phaser Pedal
Made in: Japan
Serial number: 812131
Colour: Black

Complete set with original box, warranty card, and instruction manual – increasingly difficult to find.

Produced during the formative years of Guyatone’s compact effects pedal production and representing an important chapter in Japan’s vintage effects history.

This is a Guyatone PS-007 Phaser from the GUYATONE EFFECT BOX SERIES, manufactured in Japan around 1981.

Carefully cleaned, inspected, and fully tested, this pedal remains an excellent example of an early Japanese analog phaser from the golden era of Japan Vintage compact effects.

The PS-007 was developed during a period when Japanese manufacturers were establishing a worldwide reputation for innovative and musical analog effects designs. Featuring a sophisticated multi-stage phasing circuit, the pedal delivers the warm, rich modulation character that made early Japanese phasers highly regarded among players and collectors.

What makes this particular example especially desirable is its unusually complete package, including the original box, original warranty card, and original instruction manual. Examples retaining all original accessories have become increasingly difficult to locate after more than four decades.

This early black-face PS Series model features four RC4558P operational amplifiers, multiple FET stages, and classic Japanese analog circuit architecture. The result is a smooth and musical phasing effect with excellent depth and movement, equally suitable for subtle modulation or more pronounced psychedelic textures.

Cosmetically, the pedal remains in remarkably clean condition for its age. Only minor signs of use are present, and the overall appearance has been well preserved considering it is more than forty years old.

Estimated Production Period

Circa 1981.

Most likely manufactured between late 1980 and mid 1981.

Dating is supported by the serial number structure, circuit architecture, component selection, and overall production characteristics consistent with early PS Series models.

Condition

Very good vintage condition for its age.

The pedal has been carefully cleaned, inspected, and tested.

Operation was confirmed using both a 9V battery and DC adapter.

No noticeable scratchiness or unwanted noise was detected from the controls during testing.

Minor cosmetic wear may be present, including slight paint lifting consistent with age.

Please refer to the photographs for exact cosmetic condition.

Production Background

Guyatone was one of Japan’s pioneering electric instrument manufacturers and played an important role in the development of Japanese electric guitars and electronic musical equipment throughout the post-war era.

Founded by Mitsuo Matsuki, widely regarded as one of the pioneers of electric guitar manufacturing in Japan, Guyatone became internationally recognized for innovative electronic instrument design and practical engineering solutions.

While the company produced guitars, amplifiers, and other musical equipment, it became particularly respected for its effects pedals. During the late 1970s and early 1980s, Guyatone introduced the EFFECT BOX SERIES, helping establish Japan as a major force in the global compact effects market.

The PS-007 represents this important period in the company’s history. Designed during the early years of the Japanese analog effects boom, it reflects the craftsmanship and engineering quality that helped Japanese-made pedals earn worldwide recognition.

Today, original Japanese-made Guyatone pedals are increasingly appreciated by collectors and musicians alike, particularly examples from the company’s early production years that retain their original accessories and documentation.

For collectors seeking an authentic early-1980s Made-in-Japan analog phaser beyond the more commonly encountered BOSS and Maxon models, the PS-007 remains a desirable and increasingly difficult-to-find example.
