Description from the seller
Dating back to the Second World War era, the Bino. Prism No. 2 Mk II is a rugged military-issue porro prism binocular manufactured by the renowned British optics company Kershaw & Son in Leeds. Designed explicitly for tactical field service by British and Commonwealth Armed Forces, this instrument was engineered to withstand severe combat conditions while providing reliable reconnaissance capabilities. It features military Broad Arrow (pheon) property marks stamped on the chassis plates, alongside specific serial registration codes. Displaying an authentic battle-worn patina, this piece is a highly evocative military collectible that serves as a tangible link to WWII frontline operations.
KEY FEATURES
Authentic British military-issue service binoculars from the WWII era
Heavy-duty cast brass and alloy construction engineered for extreme field durability
Individual eyepiece focusing mechanics to maintain dust and moisture seals
Distinctive textured leatherette grip cladding on the main barrels
Genuine military property stamps including the Broad Arrow symbol and inspection marks
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
Optical Type: Porro Prism Binoculars
Magnification and Objective: 6x30mm
Model Designation: Bino. Prism No. 2 Mk II
Manufacturer: Kershaw & Son, Leeds, England
Serial Number: Registered on the upper prism plate as No. 109766
CONDITION REPORT
Cosmetic: Well-worn combat condition showing extensive signs of historical field service. The black paint on the brass edges exhibits significant rubbing, brassing, and loss, exposing the raw metal beneath. The textured leatherette cladding is mostly intact but displays wear and surface scuffs consistent with its age. One of the hard composition eyecups has been replaced or is mismatched in color (brown/tan vs black).
Optics: The glass elements and internal prisms show dust, light internal haze, and debris typical for an unserviced military instrument of this vintage. There are no major external chips on the objective elements, though internal cleaning is recommended for functional field use.
Mechanics: The central hinge adjustments pivot firmly to set the correct interpupillary distance. Individual helical eyepiece focusing rings rotate manually to adjust focus depth.
Test status: This item is sold as a historical WWII military artifact and collectible piece; it has not been professionally refurbished, realigned, or purged.
