Emil Busch (born August 6, 1820 in Berlin; died April 1, 1888 in Rathenow) was a German industrialist in precision mechanics and optics. He was involved in the invention of the wide-angle lens.
In 1868 Busch was appointed Royal Commercial Counselor by the king for his merits. In 1872 he transformed the company into a joint-stock company to facilitate necessary investments. It did so with the help of the Quistorp & Co. Vereinbank. The share capital of the joint-stock company was 275,000 talers. In the resulting Rathenower Optische Industrie-Anstalt vormals Emil Busch A.-G., Emil Busch subsequently held a high position as a “delegate of the supervisory board” and as a director.
The company subsequently attained a dominant market position. Through unofficial arrangements with Zeiss, it restricted free competition. Carl Zeiss had his son Roderich undertake a commercial apprenticeship at Busch. Busch, in turn, contributed an expert opinion that led the state to subsidize Zeiss’s glass technology laboratory with 35,000 talers. Busch, who never studied, died in 1888. It is largely because of him and Johann and Eduard Duncker that the town of Rathenow became synonymous with high-quality optical devices.
The theater glass captivates with its very good preserved condition.
Easily adjustable and aligned—crystal-clear lenses—dust-free, cleaned!
Minimal patina.
