This statue comes from northern Nigeria, Sokoto style; it is an archaeological digging object. Sokoto is the nearest city to the discovery site of these works. They were produced over a period from 500 BC to 500 AD, i.e. 1000 years... At the same time, works with similar styles were made near the city of Nok as well as near Katsina. The Nok, Sokoto, and Katsina styles are the three best known.
A superb representation of a male figure seated. The expression of the figure is quite peaceful; the posture and body stance add to this sense of serenity. The treatment of the volumes, with a simple and naive appearance, is well mastered. The left arm and leg are missing. The rest is in good condition; the penis was restored. The work is solid, with no cracks or friable parts. Custom-made solid wood base. See photos for details. The photos are part of the description. A beautiful old, rare, and authentic work. Sold with its original thermoluminescence test, QED Laboratory, as well as a certificate of authenticity and a professional invoice.
