Nakamichi 480 two-head cassette deck from 1979, renovated and tested working, weight 8 kg.
Description from the seller
Offered is a fully refurbished Nakamichi 480 2-head cassette deck, and this excellent deck comes from 1979.
This Nakamichi 480 is a legendary two-head cassette deck from the golden age of analog audio.
The 480 can play Type I, CrO2, and Metal tapes clearly with minimal distortion.
This thoroughly precisely revised model has been fully checked, with special attention paid to the mechanism to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
Many parts have been replaced, such as the pinch roller, small belts, cords, springs, etc.
The Nakamichi 480 is praised as an excellent "entry-level" cassette deck that shares the superb transport technology and heads of more expensive Nakamichi models (such as the 580/680).
Users appreciate the warm, clear sound and high build quality, often described as a "2-head deck that sounds like a 3-head".
This Nakamichi cassette deck is the perfect choice for music lovers and audiophiles who value the warm, authentic sound of analog recordings and are looking for excellent recording and playback quality.
The sound from this deck is so beautiful that you’re amazed by the pure tone of this now gorgeous device.
Currently there is a so-called Maxell Chrome tape in it with music recorded by this deck (see photo).
The deck is now set to Chrome tapes.
If you insert another type of tape you will of course need to adjust the tape type setting on the cassette deck.
Also from the outside this Nakamichi cassette deck has received a good refresh.
The "silver" aluminum front panel was too dirty to look at.
I cleaned that front panel with precision and it is now in good visual condition.
Unfortunately there are a few small scratches on the top of the aluminum front at the front, but well, after 47 years.
The black iron "lid" on the top and sides was severely damaged with scratches and imperfections.
I treated it firmly with waterproof sandpaper and then spray-painted it three times in a nice black (satin) color, and now the whole thing looks as good as new.
Key features and assessments:
Sound quality: Provides a clear, warm, and smooth sound, excellent for listening to or digitizing old tapes.
Transport & Heads: Shares the superior transport mechanism with more expensive models, ensuring a stable tape loop.
Performance: Although it is a 2-head system, the sound is experienced as very good, often with remarkably good stereo separation.
The 480 is an excellent choice for enthusiasts looking for the "Nakamichi sound" without paying the top price of a 3-head cassette deck.
If you are looking for a perfectly functioning but also visually beautiful vintage cassette deck, then I definitely recommend this one. kind regards, Henk
