Jean-Guy Caumeil, photographer, still alive, from Saint-Étienne, France. Creator of Studio du Trident.
The author develops a style he describes as minimalist; little or no set or props, the essence lies in capturing an emotion in the model’s posture or gaze.
He seeks to strip the scene so that the sign (punctum) is perceived and guides the viewer toward the meaning the viewer will give to the photo.
Photography is not a story or a predefined meaning to be shown.
Photography tells nothing, does not advocate, does not deliver a message, does not impose a point of view.
Photography is a gift that allows the reader to tell their own story, to advocate, and to read their message.
The work of light is crucial for him as is the complicity with the model. In this minimalist vein, since 2015 he has begun a long-standing, non-exclusive collaboration with a single model.
