Icon - Saint Barbara - Wood

Russian antique icon, very finely painted. In Cyrillic script, Saint Barbara is written above her head. Mounted on a gold-colored wooden board (dimensions 22 x 16 cm). The varnish is slightly yellowed. Shortly after World War II, bought by the Dutch ambassador in Hungary.
The tower on the left is the attribute in which Barbara was imprisoned by her father; the chalice refers to her role as patroness of a good death and the last sacrament. The palm branch is the attribute of victory over death, and with the sword at her feet she was beheaded by her father when she converted to Christianity.
