Description from the seller
Veracruz culture Warrior statuette.
Statuette depicting a standing warrior, one arm raised. He is adorned with a headdress and wears a three-element elongated necklace, ear and nose rings, and is clothed in a loincloth.
The warrior's body is partially painted with a black tar called chapopote.
The statuette has a hole in the back and an opening at the shoulder. It whistles when you blow into the opening.
These statuettes were sometimes ceremonial whistles like this one.
Mexico, Veracruz culture, 350 / 700 AD.

Very good condition – minor loss – restoration
Provenance: Germany, H.T.A. gallery.
Previously: Private collection of West Germany, KB, in Germany since at least 1971.
Accompanied by an export license issued by the German cultural authorities.
