Description from the seller
Important Empire-era coin cabinet, derived from the interior of a small cabinet belonging to an Imperial secretary, later adapted with a custom-made wooden containment framework. A piece of great charm and notable craftsmanship, entirely made in solid walnut, including the internal structures and the drawer linings.
The structure comprises six drawers: one large drawer at the base, one large at the top, and four smaller side drawers, arranged symmetrically around an elegant central arched compartment. On the front there are refined decorative anta-columns that confer additional architectural balance and a typically Empire taste.
All drawers retain the original Varese paper lining, perfectly attached and in excellent condition. All original period Empire fittings are present with gilded sheet metal; the smaller drawers are fitted with pulls featuring a lion’s head and ring, of particular decorative value.
The piece shows a splendid original patina and is in excellent overall conservation condition; plausible restorations performed over time are compatible with the period and the intended use of the object.
Dimensions:
* Length: 78 cm
* Height: 50 cm
* Depth: 32 cm
