Description from the seller
The subject of the auction is an excellent, collectible porcelain figurine depicting a seated girl sewing in traditional folk costume from the Danish Amager region. This charming intimate sculpture enchants with subtle, underglaze painting in the palette and style characteristic of Scandinavian manufacture, with a subdued range of colors. The author of this iconic design from 1911 is the esteemed sculptor Lotte Benter, whose embossed porcelain signature along with the date of the original is visible on the folds of the figure’s skirt. The offered piece was produced at the renowned Royal Copenhagen manufactory in 1967, precisely documented by a green underglaze seal with a crown and the horizontal line placed under the letter “H” in the word COPENHAGEN. The presented object carries a complete set of original and rarely found in such full sets artisan marks. On the bottom of the base, beside the clear model number 1314, there are three cobalt-blue wavy lines – symbolizing the three Danish straits – and the painter’s monogram “FL,” which corresponded to the hand-finishing of the details. Additionally, on one of the unglazed base elements there are deep factory indentations in the mass in the form of the letters “BB,” an internal mark of the mold-maker (cast from liquid porcelain mass). The absence of any notches on the blue waves clearly confirms that this is a first-quality item, free of production defects. Dimensions: Height: 15.5 cm; Width: 9.5 cm; Depth: 9.5 cm. The figurine is kept in cabinet-condition – perfect, with no cracks, chips, or restorations. It represents an excellent proposition for discerning collectors of European porcelain and a unique decorative element for interiors.
I do not ship to the USA or to countries affected by armed conflict in the Middle East.
