"Aria d'Italia" is a famous and refined magazine of art, culture, and avant-garde style, born in 1939, inseparably linked to the figure of the great architect and designer Gio Ponti. The work represents one of the highest expressions of European art publishing in the twentieth century. The duo mainly unfolds in two historical moments and formats:
1. The Historical Magazine (1939–1941)
The idea: Created and published in Milan by the collector and intellectual Daria Guarnati.
The role of Gio Ponti: He was the visual and theoretical privileged interlocutor of Guarnati. He designed three iconic covers for the title and contributed numerous articles and illustrations.
The format: It was published in only seven quarterly issues before the war interrupted its printing.
The philosophy: A refined montage of texts and images that combined the valorization of the Italian classical heritage (from the Renaissance) with the birth of modern and Mediterranean style.
