Description from the seller

Magnificent antique painting of Saint Anne, a devotional work of extraordinary finesse and rare charm, which unites engraving art with the refined mastery of artisanal embroidery.
At the center of the composition stands a precious antique black-and-white engraving depicting Saint Anne caught in the sweet act of educating the young Mary, a classic and intimate iconography rich in deep spirituality. The sacred image is enclosed by a delicate gold grille trim that serves as an internal frame.
The true peculiarity and the strength of this piece lie in the elaborate and meticulous high-manufacture work performed on the silk background: a rich three-dimensional floral frieze, entirely handmade with silver threads, canutiglia, and beads, which magnificently frames the entire scene culminating in the refined calligraphic inscription "St. Anne".
The work is presented within a splendid gilded wooden frame dating from the mid-20th century, finely crafted with an antique effect that harmonizes perfectly with the piece’s aesthetics and sacredness. An intimate, elegant, and sophisticated collectible item, ideal for enriching a collection of sacred art or for adding a touch of refined historicity to a discerning environment.
The central part (the engraving, the silk, and the exceptional embroidery in silver threads and canutiglia) presumably dates to the late 19th century or the very early 20th century (Umbertine Style / End of the 19th Century). The French inscription "St. Anne" suggests a probable manufacture or Franco-Belgian influence, well known for these refined devotional works imported from or used by convents. The frame, as rightly noted, was subsequently replaced in the mid-20th century.
