Statue Tadep - Mambila - Nigeria
At the border of Nigeria and Cameroon, in the Donga valley, the Mambila people live. It is a population of farmers and herders in a difficult coexistence with the larger Fulani population, nomadic herders.

Many works were created within the Suaga, a system of masquerades and oaths accompanied by sacrifices.
Among them, there are zoomorphic masks, varied, polychrome, and truly very expressive.

Statuettes tadep of this type were made by the Mambila or their neighbors.
We thought they were ancestor figures, but now it seems that they were rather intended for therapeutic purposes.
