Spanish circa early 20th century desk box in 916 silver with vermeil interior, measuring 10 × 4 × 1.5 cm and weighing 81 g, including the original silver-tweezers, in very good condition with minor signs of age.
Description from the seller
Elegant and highly exclusive desk box made in Spanish 916 sterling silver, with a fully vermeil interior (silver-gilt) and accompanied by its original silver-plated tweezers.
The lid features refined engraved decoration inspired by historic Spanish postage stamps, with classic philatelic motifs and period female portrait engravings, making this piece especially attractive to collectors of philately and Spanish antique silver.
Because of its compartmented interior and the precision tweezers, these boxes were used to preserve, classify, and handle delicate postage stamps without damaging them. They are unusual pieces and today very difficult to find complete and in such good condition, which greatly increases their collector appeal.
The piece retains the old silver hallmark “916,” used in Spain before the official introduction of the star punch in 1934. This detail helps date the piece to the early 20th century, adding historical authenticity and extra value within Spanish antique silver.
The vermeil interior adds elegance and protection against oxidation, while the high quality of the engraving and the harmony of the design reflect the excellent Spanish artisanal tradition of the period.
