Aldo Borgonzoni (1913-2004) - Vexcovo

Work on paper created with mixed media (pastel and chalk) by Aldo Borgonzoni, one of the most significant figures of Italian expressionist realism of the second half of the twentieth century.

The drawing fits perfectly into the famous cycle of the "Cardinals", a central theme the artist developed starting in 1961, fascinated by the social and spiritual ferment of the Second Vatican Council. With his characteristic brisk and etched graphic line, Borgonzoni investigates the psychology of ecclesiastical power, contrasting the monumental severity of the miter with a vibrant background played in tones of green and gold.
