Description:

Exquisite chrysofanthic-style sculpture from the Art Deco period (c. 1920-1930) depicting the expressive figure of a jester or minstrel in a dynamic and theatrical pose. The character, dressed in his distinctive tight suit and a bell hat in bright golden tone, holds a small carved owl with delight.

The face and exposed hands are rendered in a composite material in ivory tones, achieving a superb chromatic contrast and capturing a sly smile of great realism, very typical of master sculptors of the period such as Demetre Chiparus or Gerdago.

The piece sits impeccably on an elegant two-material cylindrical base of veined green marble with a black lower plinth, which stylizes the figure and gives it a strong decorative presence.
