Description from the seller
Description: An 18th-century occasion spoon, with the handle design in the middle featuring a figure who holds his left hand over his eyes and, as it were, wears a heart-shaped ornament on his head, with cherubic figures, an oval cartouche and a crown. The reverse side of the bowl bears the inscription "Antje Jans is Geboren Den 20 November 1789."
Provenance: Leeuwarden, Netherlands
Silversmith: Jan van Leek (1768-1798). The master mark seems similar to Johan Marcus Lentz, but he died in 1780 which does not correspond with the inscription on the spoon. See the book "Merken van Friesche Goud- en Zilversmeden" by E. Voet Jr. page 182, keurteken 133a
Year: ca. 1789 (based on inscription)
Keurteken(s): master mark (IVL joined)
Condition: in good condition with light signs of use (crack in the rim of the bowl)
Weight: 51.6 grams
Purity: 833/1000
Dimensions: 5 x 18 cm
