Description from the seller

Russian Orthodox brass icon with a saint depiction and polychrome enamel – 19th century

Beautiful Russian Orthodox brass icon with a depiction of three saints in relief, set against a background of green, blue and white enamel. This type of devotional icon was used as a house icon and personal protective object within the Orthodox faith tradition.

Description
The icon shows three standing saint figures with halos, depicted in a sober yet expressive composition. The left figure carries a staff or cross attribute, while the other saints are shown in contemplative poses. Above the figures are Cyrillic inscriptions referring to the names of the depicted saints.

The background is richly filled with green, blue and white enamel, creating a vivid contrast with the dark brass relief. Due to age and use, the enamel shows clear wear and losses, giving the object an authentic historic character.

The compact composition, the integrated hanging loop and the refined execution are typical of Russian cast icons from the 19th century. Such icons were produced in specialized ateliers and used for personal prayer and spiritual protection.
