Russian Orthodox brass icon with three saints – 19th century
Beautiful Russian Orthodox brass icon depicting three standing saints in relief. This type of devotional icon was used as a home icon and personal protective object within the Orthodox faith tradition.
Description
The icon shows three saint figures with halos, frontally depicted in a sober and balanced composition. The central figure is shown in a praying posture, flanked by two saints with traditional garments and attributes. Above the figures are partly legible Cyrillic inscriptions referring to the names of the depicted saints.
The simple yet powerful design and the refined relief are typical of Russian cast icons from the 19th century. The brass surface has developed a lovely natural patina with age, which enhances the spiritual appearance of the object.
At the top there is an integrated hanging hole, suitable for the original use as a wall icon or personal devotional object. Such icons were produced in specialized ateliers and used for personal prayer and spiritual protection.
