Description from the seller

from a private collection, in very good condition. Rare opportunity!

Kran divination masks originate from the Kran people (also called Khran), a subgroup of the Wé, who live in the border region between Ivory Coast and Liberia. They traditionally serve as spiritual intermediaries for divinations, rituals, and social orders within the animist secret societies.

For Kran masks (often attributed to the Dan, Wé, or Guéré from Liberia and Ivory Coast) there is no singular "native name." The designation depends on their specific function, manifestation, and the subgroup. In general, the spirits and masks in the region are referred to as Gle (or Ge).
