Pair of antique chairs in oak wood in the Henri II / Neo‑Renaissance style, dating from the late 19th to early 20th century.
Description from the seller
Beautiful pair of old dark wood chairs, with natural cane seats, conforming to the Henri II style tradition, a style that experienced a significant resurgence in popularity in France during the second half of the 19th century and the early 20th century.
Inspired by the French Renaissance, these chairs feature several characteristics typical of the Neo-Renaissance style: turned uprights and legs, backrest with columns and balusters, finishes in the shape of a pine cone, carved decoration in the upper part with a shell motif, as well as a cane-seated seat adding lightness and authenticity to the whole.
This type of furniture reflected the bourgeois taste of the era for historical references, architectural forms, and traditional craftsmanship.
Their slender silhouette, their elaborated back, and their beautiful antique patina give them a lot of character.
These chairs particularly attract collectors of old French furniture, vintage décor enthusiasts, interior designers, as well as furniture restorers. Their charm lies in their artisanal authenticity, their elegant proportions, and their potential for restoration or enhancement in a rustic chic, country, classic, or vintage interior.
They can be kept in their original condition to preserve their patina, or restored/re-styled according to the desired decorative project.
