Victorian-era (late 19th/early 20th century) antique wooden inkstand and desk tidy. Main features and construction Material: Typically made of walnut (often burl veneer) and decorated with black-stained (ebonized) edges and details. Accessories: Two pressed or cut glass ink jars, one of which has the original metal lid or cap. Functional elements: A solid, ebonized handle was placed in the middle for easy portability. The front recess served as a pen rest (pen tray) for dip pens. In the lower part of the stand there is a pull-out drawer for storing writing instruments, nibs or papers. This type of luxurious desk accessory was an essential accessory of 19th century bourgeois and office culture, along with typewriters and before the spread of ballpoint pens.
