Description from the seller
Offered is a unique piece of technology: a Grenet cell or bichromate battery. The battery dates from the late 19th century. It was used in laboratories and in schooling to generate electricity. It has a unique operation. The bottle-shaped jar has a copper cap to which two carbon plates are attached. There is a zinc plate in between. The brass rod can move up and down to activate the battery. The bottle then contains an electrolyte (not present now; I have not tried it myself). A fascinating piece of technology indeed!
