Description from the seller
Painter Piet Willequet is the continuation of a tradition in Flemish painting. It has developed in the region known as the Flemish Ardennes. The softly undulating landscape, the low scattered cottages, the etching of the trees in winter, the mild atmosphere—these are numerous elements that exert a strong appeal on a sensitive and refined artist like Piet Willequet.
The slowly gliding seasons give this landscape, where silence becomes beauty, a very distinct atmosphere. It is that atmosphere that Willequet captures on the painter’s canvas with a touch of refinement and sensibility. There is clearly an intimate dialogue between the artist and the subject. It is a pure and honest testimony of a strong connection and a great love for this landscape, in the sense Henry Miller expressed: "Painting is loving again".
The familiar landscape in the surroundings of his home is the devout workshop for this artist, who within his milieu continually discovers and records new viewpoints and mood changes. The nobility of simplicity, the refinement of form, and the clarity of atmosphere form the authentic hallmark of Piet Willequet’s painting.
