Description from the seller

Representation of Judith with the head of Holofernes made by a Caravaggist painter and contemporary of the master, dating from the late 16th or early 17th century, perfectly captures the drama of Caravaggio's chiaroscuro. An Italian work created by a follower of Caravaggio's style (1571-1610), characterized by intense realism and tenebrism (dramatic use of chiaroscuro). This Baroque current influenced artists in Rome and Naples. It has undergone restorations.
