Face mask mfondo, of the Lualwa people, DR Congo

With a prominent nasal bridge, a concave mask face with protruding lips (adhesive spots!) and rectangular eyes.
The hole between the nose and mouth was originally used to hold a knotted cord. (held between the teeth)
Masks of this mvondo type were used for initiation rites, but also for hunting ceremonies.

Mit markantem Nasenrücken, konkavem Maskengesicht mit hervorstehenden Lippen (Klebestellen!) und rechteckigen Augen.
Das Loch zwischen Nase und Mund diente ursprünglich zur Aufnahme einer geknoteten Schnur. (wird mit den Zähnen gehalten)
Masken dieser Art mvondo wurden für Initiationsriten, aber auch für Jagdzeremonien verwendet.
