Description from the seller
Victorian-era footstool, with a padded top: There is a vertical striped pattern alternating colors such as dark red/bordeaux and beige/gold. On the dark wood base:
There is a border of small decorative metallic nails and, underneath, an ornamental floral and stylized vine motif, in gold or bronze. All original and has not undergone restorations, probably had 4 studs as resting feet that are no longer present...
This is an antique upholstered stool. An English stool in mahogany ebonized in a style of Art Nouveau, dating to the late Victorian period, around 1850..
A preventive anti-termite treatment was carried out.. The termite holes are old and no longer active..
A striking ebony appearance with a wonderfully padded cushion
It bears an aged patina of great value.
The Art Nouveau-style frame is characterized by a dark tone and a wavy-edged finish.
Sturdy cushions traditionally padded with a cover in precious fabric..
In grand Victorian interiors, a stool of this kind was a “mobile luxury.” Its heavy frame, with apron and no legs, suggests it was designed to be a “jewel” in a formal drawing room or in a lady’s boudoir.
