Decorative ornament - France

A pair of ornamental marble objects that enjoyed great popularity at the end of the 19th century. The obelisk form, a solar symbol of Egyptian origin, has been reinterpreted by cabinetmaking and European stonework since the Grand Tour era. They were often produced in workshops specialized in the stone sector, where the lathe and hand-held milling tools were used to achieve perfectly smooth surfaces.
