Venetian Murano mirror with a wooden frame beneath glass, engraved and bevelled glass panels, Napoléon III antique style, early 20th century, Italy, in good used condition with minor signs of age and imperfections, external dimensions 44 cm high by 24 cm wide.
Description from the seller
It is a mirror from around the 1900s that perfectly embodies that dialogue so characteristic of the Venetian Murano crystal and the sumptuous aesthetics of the Napoleonic III style, a combination that in its time was considered synonymous with modern luxury and exquisite craftsmanship.
The piece is organized around a wooden structure —hidden beneath a crystal veneer— that gives solidity to the whole and allows that architectural play of curves, coronas and wavy profiles. On it are arranged the etched and beveled glass panels, worked with the delicacy typical of Venetian workshops: floral motifs, stylized leaves, small volutes that seem to float over the silvered surface. The shine is cold, sharp, almost liquid, the result of traditional silvering applied to the back of the glass, a technique that Murano perfected for centuries.
The upper crown, with its softly arched form, acts as an ornamental corona reminiscent of the mirrors in the great Parisian salons of the Second Empire. That theatrical, almost scenographic air is one of the identifying features of the Napoleonic III style: exuberance under control, a taste for ornament, and a clear intention to turn every object into a focal point of the space.
The central mirror, wide and clean, reflects with a silver luminosity that amplifies the room’s light. The ensemble preserves a soft patina, typical of its age, that does not diminish the shine but rather adds depth and authenticity.
It is, in short, a piece that combines Venetian craftsmanship, French sensibility, and decorative presence, perfect for understanding how the nineteenth century reinterpreted Baroque and Rococo luxury from a modern perspective.
Certified shipping and careful packaging.
