Description from the seller
vintage illuminated sign for subscriptions to the Italian erotic magazine Playmen, published by Tattilo Editrice.
The Playmen magazine has been a pillar of Italian erotic publishing from the 1960s to the 1990s. The sign features the magazine's distinctive red logo on a white background.
indissolubly linked to the figure of Adelina Tattilo (often nicknamed "Mrs Playmen"), one of the first and most influential women entrepreneurs in the country's publishing industry.
The Playmen magazine was founded in 1967 by Saro Balsamo. In 1969, following a split, Adelina Tattilo took exclusive control, founding the publishing house that bore her name.
The challenge to Playboy: In an era when the American version of Playboy was banned in Italy, Tattilo Editrice won a very tough plagiarism lawsuit against Hugh Hefner's empire, proposing an erotism considered more authentic, refined and Mediterranean.
The scoop of the century: In 1972 the publishing house gained worldwide notoriety by publishing the famous exclusive nude images of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, cementing the commercial success of the publication.
