Description from the seller
Medieval seal of the Tenures of the Hospital of Cantimpret – Mons – Sainte-Waudru – 13th/14th century
Rare medieval wax seal in black wax representing the coat of arms of Sainte-Waudru within a diamond-shaped shield: a cross accompanied by three chevrons. The Gothic peripheral inscription, partially legible, refers to the “tenures of the hospital of Cantimpret,” dependent on the chapter of Sainte-Waudru in Mons.
The reverse preserves an old handwritten identification label mentioning an erudite provenance and a bibliographic reference to the Annales of the Archaeological Circle of Mons. There is also an old manuscript inventory number “105.”
A historically and sigillographic object of interest, evidencing the land and hospital administration of medieval Hainaut. The wax shows flaws, chips, and ancient cracks consistent with the piece’s age.
A very beautiful collection piece for the seals, medieval heraldry, and religious history enthusiast of Mons.
Period: 13th–14th century
Origin: Mons, Hainaut, Belgium
Material: black wax
Condition: wear and losses visible, stabilized, with ancient collection annotations.
Photos are an integral part of the object description and complete its presentation. Please examine them carefully before any bidding.
The item will be carefully packed and shipped with a tracking number to ensure fast and secure delivery.
