Josep Lluís Florit Rodero (Spain, 1909–2000) presents Carrera de Caballos, an original oil on paper scene from the 1940s, measuring 39 × 52.5 cm, hand-signed, in good condition, offered by Galería.
Description from the seller
Josep Lluís Florit, Spanish School - Equestrian Scene (Horse Race) - Oil on paper.
Vibrant and masterful original work by the renowned painter Josep Lluís Florit Rodero (1909-2000).
The work captures the moment of maximum tension and speed of a horse race. Far from aiming for hyperrealistic representation, Florit employs a markedly expressionist and impressionist language to convey pure movement. The technique is exceptional: using oil on paper, the artist applies the pigment, dragging the color (probably with a spatula or a stiff-bristled brush) and leaving areas of “reserve” (the white of the paper exposed). This technical resource is not accidental; it creates a brilliant optical effect that simulates sunlight reflected, dust kicked up by the hooves, and the sensation of frenetic race speed.
The color palette is intense and masterfully balanced. The emerald green and the earth tones of the track serve as a dynamic background to highlight the pure color touches of the jockeys’ jackets (red, blue, yellow, and white), guiding the viewer’s eye along the diagonal of the composition.
WHY THIS PIECE IS A RARE OPPORTUNITY?
Visual Dynamism: This is a painting that “breathes” movement. Its expressive force makes it a decor piece of the highest impact.
Valued Theme: Equestrian art and hípica (Sporting Art) scenes have a niche of collectors who are very faithful and willing to invest in works with this level of execution.
Technical Mastery: Florit’s ability to capture anatomy in motion with so few strokes is typical of a seasoned artist.
