Description from the seller
Antique Large Carved Oak Victorian Banjo Barometer & Thermometer – Fully Functional
In excellent condition – No reserve.
A magnificent 20th century banjo-form wall barometer and thermometer, executed in richly grained solid oak with exceptionally detailed hand-carved decoration. This large and elegant Victorian weather station combines scientific craftsmanship with refined decorative woodworking, making it both a functional instrument and a striking wall display piece.
The beautifully sculpted oak case features elaborate floral and foliate carvings, scrolling accents, and a prominent architectural crest. The warm honey-brown patina and deep relief carving give the piece remarkable visual depth and presence.
The upper section houses the original mercury thermometer with dual Fahrenheit and Centigrade scales mounted behind glass.
The large circular barometer dial below is finely printed with traditional weather indications including “Stormy,” “Rain,” “Change,” “Fair,” and “Very Dry.” The dial retains its elegant typography, original indicator hands, and decorative central motif beneath a brass bezel and glass cover.
The instrument has been tested and is in responsive working condition. The woodwork retains a beautiful original sheen with only minimal signs of age-related wear. The glass, dial, and thermometer tube are all cleaned and fully intact without cracks or damage.
An outstanding example of Victorian meteorological craftsmanship and a true eye-catcher for collectors of antique scientific instruments, country house interiors, or decorative wall pieces.
Dimensions: Approx. 90 x 32 x 7 cm (height x width x depth)
Weight: approximately. 3,6 Kg
Condition: In excellent antique condition with light age-related wear consistent with age and careful use.
The brass elements are polished with love. Fully functional and beautifully preserved.
