Antique table mirror in pressed glass with a gilt bronze surround, circa 1900, French origin, dimensions 30 cm high by 19 cm wide and 2 cm deep, in good used condition with minor signs of age.
Description from the seller
Molded pressed glass table mirror – Late 19th century / early 20th century
Elegant table mirror in molded pressed glass, with great decorative finesse, measuring 30 cm in height and 19 cm in width.
The frame, richly carved, features an allegorical decoration with two female figures treated in relief, with soft and naturalistic drapery, characteristic of the transition between the nascent Art Nouveau style and the Symbolist heritage of the late 19th century.
The central mirror, oval in shape, is bevelled, a detail revealing careful and high-quality production, typical of decorative pieces from the late 19th century – the very beginning of the 20th century. It is accentuated by an elegant gilded surround with a pearl-like decoration, bringing contrast and refinement to the whole.
The technique of pressed molded glass, very popular at that time, as well as the decorative vocabulary used, point to a French or European production, probably originating from the major glass-making centers of Eastern France or Bohemia, renowned for this type of decorative objects intended for bourgeois interiors.
Decorative piece of great charm, at once sculptural and functional, ideal for a makeup vanity, a desk or a display cabinet, this mirror testifies to the refined taste of the Belle Époque and constitutes a premier item for lovers of antique decorative arts.
