Pair of Luigi Filippo walnut bedside tables with feather‑pattern walnut veneer fronts and white marble tops, Italian origin, circa 1850–1900, dimensions 80 cm high, 45 cm wide, 35 cm deep, weight 20 kg, in good used condition with age-related marks.
Description from the seller
Pair of Luigi Filippo nightstands - Walnut burl and walnut feather-grain - White marble - Italy, circa 1860
Description:
Elegant pair of nightstands from the Luigi Filippo era (mid-19th century), crafted in fine solid walnut with front panels veneered in walnut feather-grain with a splendid, symmetrical grain.
The furniture features an architectural structure typical of the period, characterized by:
• Full turned column uprights topped with finely carved capitals in foliate motifs.
• A lower drawer decorated with shaped frames and the original bronze knob.
• A wide central door revealing a spacious interior compartment, typical of the period’s “night” pieces.
• Original white marble tops with molded edges, which confer brightness and prestige to the pair.
• Turned, tapered feet that lift and elongate the piece.
Conditions:
The pieces are in good original condition but show normal signs of time and wear (authentic patina). Noted:
1. Finish wear: In some areas (especially on the columns) the lacquer finish has faded and would benefit from a refresh.
2. Marble: One of the two marbles has a superficial crack (as visible in the photo), which does not affect solidity but testifies to age.
3. Hardware: The period knobs and hinges are present and functional.
These nightstands represent a classic of Italian antiques, perfect for a gentleman’s bedroom or as elegant side tables in a formal drawing room.
