Pair of architectural bookends in marble and alabaster from Italy, dating to circa 1910–1920 in a Neoclassical style.
Description from the seller
Pair of architectural marble and alabaster bookends – 20th century
Important pair of decorative bookends carved in marble and alabaster, dating from the 20th century, characterized by a strong architectural and Neoclassical taste. The shape recalls fragments of ancient fluted columns, reinterpreted in a decorative key with great scenic elegance.
The alabaster, of superb quality, features a wonderful natural translucency visible especially when backlit, where veining and warm shades emerge, giving depth and tactile charm to the whole. The marble base, substantial and massive, provides stability and a refined chromatic contrast.
Objects of great aesthetic presence, perfect both as bookends and as autonomous decorative elements. The patina of time makes the surface particularly fascinating and authentic, enhancing the sculptural character of the ensemble.
Dimensions of each piece: height 15.5 cm, width 15 cm, depth about 7.5 cm. Significant weight of about 1.7 kg each.
Normal signs of aging, small wear, slight irregularities and natural veining of the material, as well as minimal imperfections compatible with age and use, clearly visible in the photographs. Overall the pair presents in excellent aesthetic condition with splendid decorative presence.
Ideal in prominent libraries, professional studios, classical, modern or eclectic interiors. Perfect paired with antique books, bound volumes, or Grand Tour objects, but also very elegant in contemporary interiors as a material and architectural contrast.
The photos are an integral part of the description. Guaranteed careful packing entrusted to industry professionals.
