Description from the seller
Beautiful, beautifully colored, very large XXL shell Charonia Tritonis - colloquial name Triton horn or giant Triton, is a species of a very large sea snail, a mollusk of the family Charoniidae, tritons. It is one of the largest mollusks on a coral reef. The shell is thick and heavy, strongly coiled in the shape of an elongated tower. Ends sharply at the apex, gradually widens toward the aperture.
Strongly ribbed, with prominent spiral ridges and knobs. The color of the shell is most often yellowish, cream or brown with irregular, darker spots and bands. The aperture (shell opening) is large, wide, oval.
The interior is smooth, often in orange, pink or reddish-brown tones, contrasting with the outer surface of the shell. The outer lip is thick, sometimes wavy, often with delicate crenellations.
Distinctive features - due to its large size and characteristic structure it has been used in many cultures as a wind instrument (shell-trumpet).
It is valued by collectors and has significance in art and rituals. Dimensions - 135×195×370mm. Highly recommended for collectors and interior decorators.
