This lot features a german stoneware mug made in the second halft of 19th century in Bavaria region. Decorated with three separate scenes in relief, the mug has a slight connical shape narrowing towards its upper edge. The highly detailed scenes are composed of medieval characters, surrounded by plant formations and architectural elements, while its central figure, a crowned man standing on a throne portraying Gambrinus - The God of Drinking is toasting with his right hand and the left on his sword. Near the handle the figure of a long haired character is presented probably tasting wine and holding a book, wich can be easily associated with Christ, giving this mug a religious character also. Its pewter lid is decorated with a monograme containing the initials of its past owner.
