Description from the seller
Elegant Belle Époque lorgnet – 935 silver – engraved handle – ca. 1880–1910
A particularly elegant antique lorgnet or lorgnette from the Belle Époque period, made of high-quality 935 silver, a relatively high silver content used only in finer versions, dating from the late 19th century to the early 20th century.
This refined accessory embodies the elegance and craftsmanship of an era in which style, etiquette and personal accessories formed an important part of social life.
The lorgnette is equipped with a beautifully engraved handle, richly adorned with refined floral ornamentation. The decoration reflects the artistic taste of the late 19th century and gives the object a timeless appearance. Mechanism: This specific type features a spring mechanism. As soon as the small button on the side of the stem is pressed, the two overlapping lenses automatically unfold into a full pair of glasses. The attachment eye was originally intended for use on a chain, ribbon or chatelaine.
Lorgnettes were beloved accessories for theater visits, operas, concerts and social gatherings. They were worn by ladies and gentlemen of the upper circles and formed a subtle combination of functionality and luxury. Today, original specimens are valued by collectors of antique silver, optical instruments and Belle Époque objects.
