Description from the seller

Rare Hand-Carved Oak Panel – Saint James the Greater the Pilgrim, 17th Century

Splendid and rare decorative panel in solid oak wood (oak) carved in high and low relief, depicting Saint James the Greater in pilgrimage attire. The saint's figure is set within an architectural niche with a semicircular arch, supported by finely carved side columns with scale-like geometric motifs. Saint James is depicted with his iconic iconographic attributes: the wide-brimmed traveler’s hat. The long walking staff (staff) held in the right hand. The sacred book held in the left hand, testifying to his status as an apostle. The work originally formed part of a broader ecclesiastical furnishing, such as a wooden choir, an altarpiece, or a sacristy cabinet.

Details and Condition
Material: Solid oak wood.
Condition: Excellent state of conservation for its age. It presents a splendid dark, deep patina due to the natural oxidation of the wood over centuries. The historical signs of manual gouge-work on the base are visible, along with light natural cracks that certify its authenticity and age. No invasive restorations noted recently.

A piece of high antique charm, ideal for collectors of medieval art, antiques, or as an exclusive decorative element.
